ABSTRACT

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease of obscure etiology that may involve almost any organ system; therefore, it results in various clinical manifestations. We are presenting a case of 60-year-old female complaining of multiple raised skin colored, to reddish lesions over face and few lesions over neck and extremities since 4 months cutaneous examination revealed multiple well defined skin colored to erythematous papulo-nodular lesions involving whole face with few discrete papular lesions over neck and extremities. Nasal skin was globular, studded with multiple nodules suggestive of lupus pernio. Histopathology showed many non-caseating naked epithelioid cell granulomas of variable sizes in the dermis. He was given oral methylprednisolone 16 mg twice daily after meal along with oral methotrexate 15 mg once in a week and tablet hydroxychloroquine 200 mg twice daily with keeping an eye over related adverse effects of all prescribed drugs. Still patient did not get remission after 6 months of a complete therapy. Due to the rarity of this disorder and its non-responding nature and course with conventional modalities of treatment made us to report this article for further studies and research.

ABSTRACT

Facioscapulo humeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a rare type of myopathy and differs clinically and genetically from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It is an autosomal dominant disorder and as the name designates it has the characteristic distribution of the weakness. The face is almost always affected. Progression of the disease is slow and symptoms begin in adolescence but signs may be evident in children. We present a case of facioscapulo humeral muscular dystrophy in a 14 year old girl & the case was sporadic in nature.

ABSTRACT

Infant massage was first introduced in China in 2nd century BC. Massaging the newborn has been a tradition in India and other Asian countries since time immemorial. Various oil-based preparations have been used depending on the regional availability. There has been a recent surge in this ancient art particularly as a therapy among parents and professionals in the Western world. Evidence exists supporting the benefits of touch and massage therapy. We reviewed the literature to look at the various techniques of providing massage, its benefits, possible mechanism of action and adverse effects. The review suggests that massage has several positive effects in terms of weight gain, better sleep-wake pattern, enhanced neuromotor development, better emotional bonding, reduced rates of nosocomial infection and thereby, reduced mortality in the hospitalized patients. Many studies have described the technique and frequency of this procedure. Massage was found to be more useful when some kind of lubricant oil was used. Harmful effects like physical injury and increased risk of infection were encountered when performed inappropriately. The review also discusses the different hypotheses put forward regarding the mechanism of action. As of now there are very few studies describing the long term impact of neonatal massage.
